Handel: Sense and Sensibilty – Myrsini Margariti & Alex Mastichiadis

September 20, 2020 - 8:30 pm

Georg Friedrich Handel composed mostly vocal music and gained great reputation among the important European centers already from the first decades of the 18th century.

In his collection Neun Deutsche Arien, nine art songs in german which praise the Nature and reflect Pietist beliefs, as well as in the french cantata Sans y penser and the spanish cantata No se emenderá jamás – one of the earliest examples of a secular Spanish cantata – the already famous composer presents an introverted character, musically supporting the tender, simple and unpretentious mood of the poet’s texts with the same dominance that he expressed the strong passions or the virtuoso sentimentality in his operas and oratorios.

Myrsini Margariti, soprano

Alex Mastichiadis, harpsichord
