SUMMARY:Musical Postcard from Stockholm 1770 - Music from the Utile Dulci Collection
DESCRIPTION:The Utile Dulci was a literary and musical Academy and a Secret Society in Stockholm\, Sweden\, during the latter part of the 18th century. The society was a forerunner to the Svenska Akademien and was a preparation for The Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Its members\, among others\, were writers\, composers\, and musicians and it had king Gustaf III as patron. \nThe society has left behind a solid music collection of music performed at the society’s various gatherings\, this collection\, this amazing cultural heritage\, is now preserved at the Musik- och teaterbiblioteket (Music and Theater Library) in Stockholm. \nThe collection shows what kind of music was played in Stockholm and throughout Europe during the 18th century\, and combines Sweden with the rest of Europe both in a cultural and a social way. In this concert music from the collection is performed\, music by both known and unknown composers such as Hupfeld\, Festing\, and Uttini\, unique music that has probably never been performed since the 18th century! \n  \nEnsemble Utile Dulci \nRebecka Karlsson – baroque violin\nUlrika Westerberg – baroque violin\nMirjam Pfeiffer – baroque cello\nBjörn Gäfvert – harpsichord \n  \nPhilippos Nakas Concert Hall\nOctober 12 at 21:00 / free online YouTube premiere available 48h \n  \nWATCH LIVE

SUMMARY:Ex tempore
DESCRIPTION:Starting from the concept and the inevitable character of time\, the musicians Lina Jarvers (baroque violin)\, Andreas Linos\, Athanasia Teliou (viola da gamba) and Ralf Waldner (harpsichord) present a programme with works of the English composer of the late Renaissance\, Christofer Simpson the Months\, in dialogue with the work of Karlheinz Stockhausen\, melodies of the star signs for music boxes. \nThe particular colouring of each season and the assumption of the division of time into 12 months – with the particular colouring and character of each – create a bridge between the composers and build an emotional and sound environment where the listener is invited to explore together with the performers\, the paths that led the two composers – who are separated by centuries of music creation – to start from a common ground. \n  \nLina Jarvers – baroque violin\nAndreas Linos – viola da gamba\nAthanassia Teliou – viola da gamba\nRalf Waldner – harpsichord \n  \nDaphni Byzantine Monastery\nOctober 10 at 21:00 / free online YouTube premiere available 48h \n  \nWATCH LIVE

SUMMARY:Power and Vanity
DESCRIPTION:“How has my reputation benefited me? vain fame and pride and vain human works\, go away! … The power of God lifts up the weak and turns the strong to weak.” \nThis program is based on spiritual and philosophical texts that show the humility of man in front of the divine power\, with cantatas and arias for counter tenor and ensemble\, as well as instrumental music by G.P.Telemann and J.S.Bach. \nThe friendship and appreciation shown by these two composers for each other is now well-known\, with Bach being among the 294 who contributed to the publication of Telemann’s collection of 12 Paris quartets\, as well as having handwritten many cantatas of Telemann\, in order to be saved. Two great but different composers of the same period\, to whom the history and evolution of music undoubtedly owes a lot. \n  \nStamatis Pavlous – countertenor\nAnastasia Miliori – baroque violin\nKira Saplachidou – transverse flute\nNikos Nikolaidis – baroque cello\nAlex Mastichiadis – harpsichord \n  \nFrench Institute in Athens\, Greece\nOctober 8 at 21:00 / free online YouTube premiere available for 48h \n  \nWATCH LIVE
