A selection from Heinrich Schütz’s very special work, Kleine Geistliche Konzerte, for one, two, three, and four voices with thoroughbass accompaniment. Schütz blends seamlessly the exuberant Venetian style with traditional counterpoint, combining florid ornamentation and monodic declamation with imitative polyphony. Even as the composer, the Clerkes Extraordinarie strive at once to dazzle the senses and to move the passions.
